You don't need to be a pro, but basic swimming skills are a must. " Develop strong swimming abilities and gain confidence in the water before attempting to surf. "

Yes, we heavily advise you to have at least a basic travel insurance.

  • Medical expenses and cover > If you get hurt, injured, or fall during your trip.
  • Medical Evacuation > The most essential cover you need to have as a surfer. Surfing in remote areas, with no big hospital nearby.
  • Personal Liability > To cover accidents or damages caused by you.

They won’t cover you if you do something careless or out of control (such as tackling big-wave, off-shore surfing when you’re only a beginner).  Some things they may not cover include:

  • Any expenses that relate to a pre-existing medical condition
  • If you surf while under the influence of alcohol or drugs… water and alcohol never mix
  • Search-and-rescue costs
  • Competition surfing
  • Any damage related to the wear and tear of sports equipment.

The easiest board to learn on is a soft-top board, an 8-foot size is the best for all ages. The thicker and longer the board, the easier it is to paddle, stand up, and balance on. The more surface area you have, the wider your legs can be to balance. There are a variety of different boards your instructor might put you on, depending on where you are, but it will likely be taller than you.
